Why Reykjavík Tours

Book smart, not twice

We are an independent comparison guide for Reykjavík and southwest Iceland – not a tour operator.

Only what departs here

The booking feed included starts in Akureyri and Hilo. We removed them and filter transfers and tours that start far from the capital.

Book in 2 minutes

Secure checkout via GetYourGuide with instant confirmation on your phone – no printouts needed.

Free cancellation

Wind decides more here than weather forecasts do. Almost every tour can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before departure.

The honest version

The Sun Voyager, Harpa waterfront and Hallgrímskirkja exterior are free; glaciers and geysers are not in the city. We say so.

Honest answers to the questions travellers ask us most.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What can I book directly from Reykjavík?

Whale watching and city tours start in Reykjavík. Golden Circle, South Coast, glacier and geothermal trips use the capital as their pickup base but spend most of the day outside it.

How long do the main day trips take?

Golden Circle tours commonly fill 7–9 hours; South Coast itineraries often take 10–12 hours. Exact duration and pickup time are shown on each booking page.

Can a northern-lights tour guarantee a sighting?

No. Darkness, clear sky and solar activity all matter. Many operators offer another attempt after an unsuccessful departure, but you should verify the policy.

Where do whale-watching boats leave?

Most leave the Old Harbour in central Reykjavík for Faxaflói Bay. Sea conditions can change or cancel a sailing.

Does Reykjavík have glaciers or black-sand beaches?

No glacier lies in the city, and the famous Reynisfjara surf beach is on the South Coast. Both require a substantial road trip.

Do I need a rental car?

Not for the compact centre or an organised pickup tour. A car offers flexibility outside Reykjavík, but winter roads and fast-changing weather require current road checks.
